‘Socially conscious’ art gallery opens Downtown

Toledo’s art lovers can add “gallery opening” to their agendas 6-9 p.m. Dec. 13 as Delightful Art With Dee becomes Downtown’s newest space for socially conscious art.
The gallery, from local artist Dee Brown, is a project intended to bring art into the lives of underprivileged and underrepresented communities including veterans, people with disabilities and people who are deaf or with hearing loss.
“Art’s the thing. It brings a little bit of joy, beauty and color into everyone’s life,” Brown said.
A portion of proceeds from sales at the Delightful Art gallery will go toward organizing free art classes through a program Brown is calling “Art with a Heart.” These courses will take place in a room above the gallery space. The course catalog will range from family crafting workshops to more advanced courses in flameworking with Robin Schultes, former instructor at the Toledo Museum of Art and owner of Soffietta Art & Oddities. Brown will release more detailed information on course schedules once the funding picture becomes more clear.
Delightful Art With Dee is located at 137 N. Michigan St. in the Davis Building behind the Paula Brown shop. Free parking is available. Brown is sharing the space with Glass City Dharma, a meditation group that will meet in the gallery on Wednesdays and Sundays.
The Dec. 13 event will feature the work of local photographer Yvonne Moryc.
